Overflow with hope
Updated: Mar 16, 2021
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13
As I think of hope, I recall the story of Peter. He had hope as he stepped out of the boat with eyes fixed on Jesus. He believed. But once he took his eyes off Jesus and on to his surroundings, he believed in the physical laws. He couldn’t really do what Jesus asked him to do – walk on water. Doubt and uncertainties took over.
Hope doesn’t come from me. “May the God of hope” means He’s the source of our hope. God! It’s about trusting in Him. As I keep my focus on Him, believe and trust, he will fill me “with all joy and peace”. That’s a promise. But wait! There’s more…so that I may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Not by my power, but His. That’s such good news, because I will fail. But with my trust in Him, I can find hope overflowing.
God, fill me with all joy and peace as I put my trust in you. As I lay down my doubt and worries, pour into me the overflowing hope from the Holy Spirit.
