Independence Day
Updated: Mar 16, 2021
The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid, do not be discouraged. Deuteronomy 31:8
Today is Independence Day, July 4th. As a nation, we celebrate our freedom from tyranny and oppression. Freedom to worship our God.
Moses reminds the people of Israel of their freedom from slavery and oppression. In Deuteronomy, Moses reminds the people that it was God who brought them out safe. He brought them to the promised land to fulfill His purpose. Moses celebrated their Independence Day.
As I look ahead to a new journey before me, I have a choice. I can worry and have fear, or I can trust in my God. I can believe that “the Lord Himself goes before me and will be with me.” I’m not alone. He is preparing the way for the work He has planned for me. “He will never leave me or forsake me.” Wow. I can trust in “never” and stop doubting. I can face my journey ahead and “not be afraid”. I may not see the whole picture or understand why I’m in the midst of yet another challenge but knowing there’s a God ordained plan for me. I can “not be discouraged”.
Today is my Independence Day. Free from the oppression of worry. Free from the tyranny of fear. Free from the slavery of discouragement. I have a God who “goes before” me and will be with me. Today, I claim Independence from the lies of Satan and dependence on my loving God. Are you ready to trust in God to walk with you on your journey?
God, thank you for going before me to prepare the way. Whatever may come. I’m holding on to your promise to be with me.
