In the heart of Placerville, there’s a treasure to be found at the local “general mercantile” known as The Placerville News Company. Also known for being the 5th oldest business in California and 100+ years of being a family owned business. Besides gifts, art supplies, souvenirs, music, and so much more, they carry a wonderful selection of books by local authors, books on nature and local history. What makes them successful in business for so long? According to current owner Mary Meader, it’s “learning to change with the times.” Good advice for all business owners.
